What do good food and ranked-choice voting have in common?
We’ll shed some light on that during a fun-filled mock election of Jersey City’s favorite restaurant! On December 8th, join sponsors Voter Choice NJ, New Jersey Appleseed, and Councilman James Solomon at City Hall (280 Grove Street) to kick off the holidays with a ranked-choice vote for the city’s favorite of Jersey City restaurants. NOTE: A zoom link is available after sign-up for those who can't attend in person.
The hybrid event will include campaign speeches and posters for all of the restaurant candidates, and those present will vote on paper ballots. Counting done right there, in view of all, as virtual attendees vote on electronic polling software. With the results combined, one restaurant will win bragging rights as “the voters’ choice”, and six lucky attendees will win a gift certificate to a competing establishment.
This midweek after-work event will bring a smile to your face and introduce you to some great restaurants in Jersey City—and provide an example of ranked-choice voting, which is being considered in cities, counties, and states across the country. We look forward to seeing you at this fun and informative “election”—in person or on screen!
